Cigarets collect in an anti-tobacco campaign, glue, acrylic glass
30 x 44 x 10 cm

This piece was created in collaboration with the Portuguese Association for the Fight Against Lung Cancer.
On November 17th, 2011 - the Non Smoking Day - a campaign was launched to collect cigarettes in several cities in Portugal with the aim of me creating a piece to be auctioned, reversing the money raised to support the Association.
I hesitated a bit to accept the invitation because I am a smoker myself and I'm not cynical. I am not apologetic about "do what I say, don't do what I do." I am for freedom of choice; either you can smoke a cigarette, a joint or nothing; either drink coffee, tea or plain water. My biggest concern is the pollution of the planet and we, smokers, have a responsibility to not throw cigarette butts on the ground, the same way we don't do it in our homes. The father of one of my best friends, a heavy smoker, passed away this year of this deadly disease. And it was in his name and all of those who suffer from it, that I decided, upon some reflection, to accept the challenge, creating and donating the piece. If anyone is interested in seeing it or buy it please contact the Portuguese Association for the Fight Against Lung Cancer. They promised me that the piece will be displayed and sold during 2013.
